Indonesia, Sweden Strengthen Cooperation in Air Navigation, Creative Industry
Jakarta. Indonesia and Sweden agreed to increase bilateral cooperation in air transport navigation and to strengthen partnerships in the creative industry, according to a statement issued by the Cabinet Secretariat on Monday (22/05).
The agreements were signed at a bilateral meeting between President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf at the Presidential Palace in Bogor on Monday (22/05).
King Gustaf and his wife, Queen Silvia, are on their first state visit to the country and are slated to visit Jakarta, Bogor and Bandung in West Java on May 22-24. They will be accompanied by 35 Swedish business leaders.
Jokowi was quoted in the statement as saying that Indonesia and Sweden share many foreign policy goals, including supporting a peaceful resolution to the decades-long Arab-Israeli conflict.
"We support peaceful resolutions to existing conflicts," the president said.
Jokowi added that the two leaders discussed efforts in developing cooperation in renewable energy solutions and signed an agreement on visa-free access for diplomats.
"Other agreements have also been signed, ranging from innovation in entrepreneurship, science park development and education financing."
Sweden is Indonesia’s largest trading partner in Scandinavia.
According to Jokowi, the two countries' similarly-aligned foreign policy goals are crucial as the Indonesian president looks to attract greater investment in the energy and environment sectors.
During their state visit, the royal couple will attend a seminar on forestry and sustainability at the International Center for Forestry Research (Cifor) in Bogor and will pay a visit to Jakarta's old town, Kota Tua.
King Gustaf is also slated to attend the Indonesia-Sweden Executive Forum (ISEF), where business leaders from both countries will discuss efforts to strengthen economic ties.
Queen Silvia is scheduled to participate in a seminar at the Jakarta Creative Hub and a roundtable discussion on violence against children.
The Swedish delegation includes Infrastructure Minister Anna Johansson and Foreign Affairs Minister Margot Wallström.
