Indonesian, Australian Police Partner Up to Combat Crime
Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police and the Australian Federal Police, or AFP, have agreed to increase partnerships in countering transnational crime, a police official said on Wednesday (26/04).
Both institutions have signed an agreement following the 8th Senior Officers Meeting in Yogyakarta earlier this week. The conference brought together top-ranking officials from both police agencies to discuss best practices in tackling crime-related issues in the region.
"Our partnership will tackle issues of corruption, sexual crime and abuse against children, counterterrorism, organized crime syndicates, as well as the continuation of the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation," Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) chief Sr. Comr. Ari Dono Sukmanto said.
Ari added that both countries would begin exchanging key information, capacity building processes and joint investigations into transnational crime.
"Aside from that, the National Police and AFP have also agreed to implement findings from a joint 2016 strategic intelligence study. Those outputs will be reported to a working group," he said.
Ari led the Indonesian delegation, accompanied by several senior officers from various agencies within the National Police.
The Australian delegation, on the other hand, was led by its deputy commissioner of operations, Leanna Close, who was accompanied by several Jakarta-based representatives of the AFP.
