Jokowi Poses With Doppleganger at Madame Tussauds Museum in Hong Kong, Talks Tourism
Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo spent some leisure time at Madame Tussauds Museum in Hong Kong on Monday (01/05), where he and first lady Iriana Widodo enjoyed a fun-filled photoshoot with wax figures of some of history's most recognizable leaders, including himself.
Posing with his doppleganger statue, Jokowi expressed hope that the museum could promote tourism to Indonesia through its display of lifelike wax sculptures of some of Indonesia's most well-known leaders, including the president himself.
Jokowi's sculpture at the museum is also accompanied with a visual presentation of one of the country's most treasured sites: Borobudor Temple in Yogyakarta.
"However, we have asked for the [background] presentation to change every month or so. Perhaps photographs of Labuan Bajo [East Nusa Tenggara], Bali, Raja Ampat [West Papua] or Lake Toba [North Sumatra] can be featured or alternated in," Jokowi said during the visit.
"I think that would be good to promote tourism."
Iriana, surprised at the striking similarities between her husband and his wax figure on display at the museum, said the two are "99 percent identical."
Madame Tussauds Musuem in Hong Kong also features a lifelike wax sculpture of Indonesia's first president, Soekarno.
The president took advantage of the rare opportunity to pose with Soekarno, as onlookers captured the moment.
Jokowi is the only current head of state of a Southeast Asian nation to be displayed at the museum.
