Buni Yani Questioned Again in Cyber Harassment Case
Jakarta. Buni Yani, the man accused of uploading a heavily edited video of a speech by Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama that resulted in blasphemy allegations against him, was questioned again by Jakarta Police investigators on Monday (09/01) in an investigation of cyber harassment.
"Today, Buni Yani complied with the summons to be questioned as a suspect," his lawyer, Cecep Suhardiman, said.
The questioning is aimed at finalizing the case dossier as requested by state prosecutors.
Police transferred the dossier to the Jakarta Prosecutors' Office in December but they were requested to provide more evidence and testimonies before the case can be taken to court.
Cecep urged the police to carefully review the case dossier and not to force charges against Buni if the evidence is insufficient.
Buni was named a suspect in November last year for editing and sharing a video of a speech Ahok made on Pramuka Island in Jakarta's Thousand Islands district, in which the governor said nobody should manipulate verses from the Koran for political gain.
The video went viral and prompted several hardline Muslim groups to report the incumbent governor to police for blasphemy. It also served as justification for several mass protest rallies in the capital, one of which descended into violence.
