Jakarta. The first debate ahead of this year's Jakarta gubernatorial election, in which candidates are set to discuss democracy and good governance, has been scheduled for Jan. 13, a commissioner said on Wednesday (04/01).
Dahlia Umar of the provincial General Elections Commission (KPUD) said the first debate will be held at Borobudur Hotel in Jakarta, with live broadcast on TV One, NET TV and Jawa Pos TV.
During the two-hour debate, the candidates will discuss bureaucratic reforms, good governance, government innovation, justice reform and eradication of corruption and extortion.
"We hope all parties understand the debate process. Everyone can watch it live on television or listen to it on radio," Dahlia told reporters in Jakarta.
The KPUD has scheduled the second debate for Jan. 27 and the third for Feb. 10.
All of the candidates are obliged to participate in each session.
The gubernatorial election will take place on Feb. 17, with three candidate pairs contesting: Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni; Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat; Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno.
