City Plans to Extend New Transjakarta Corridor 13 to Tangerang
Jakarta. Acting Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat inspected Transjakarta's new corridor 13 on Monday (15/05) and laid out plans to extend the commuter line to the residential area of Puri Beta in Ciledug, Tangerang.
Djarot inspected segments of the corridor in the South Jakarta neighborhood of Tendean, where the route originates, to check for adequate safety measures at bus stops and flyover lanes along the new line.
The corridor, which is set to launch to coincide with the anniversary of Jakarta's founding on June 22, will be Transjakarta's longest line and will connect Tendean with the Ciledug neighborhood of nearby Tangerang.
"We have made several decisions regarding Transjakarta corridor 13. First, we plan to extend the corridor to the Puri Beta housing residence in Tangerang to ease the flow of traffic there," Djarot said.
Djarot also asked Transjakarta to increase security protocols and add more comprehensive safety measures along the route's twisting flyover lanes.
To that end, Transjakarta drivers have been conducting test drives along the route since March to ensure road safety.
Djarot was accompanied on his inspection by Transjakarta director Budi Kaliwono, Jakarta Transportation Agency head Andri Yansah and Tangerang Mayor Arief Wismansyah.
Since April 2016, Transjakarta has launched several new bus routes in Greater Jakarta, including lines to connect the capital's many train stations.
