Djarot Eyes Absolute Victory at 2,000 Polling Stations in Runoff Election
Jakarta. Incumbent Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat is confident that he and running mate Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama will win the second round of the Jakarta gubernatorial election on April 19.
"Our analysis shows that we can attract more than 90 percent of the votes at more than 2,000 polling stations [in the runoff election]," Djarot said in Jatipadang, South Jakarta, on Friday (24/03).
The Jakarta General Election Commission (KPUD) states on its website that it has established more than 13,000 polling stations for the runoff election, with around 7.2 million residents estimated to vote.
"Some reports even said that we [Ahok-Djarot] can win 95 percent at some of those [2,000] polling stations. It's very possible if most residents choose to exercise their right to vote on the day," Djarot added.
"These predicted polling stations are in all Jakarta's administrative regions in the north, south, west, east and central," he said.
The candidate pair will face off against former education minister Anies Baswedan and his running mate, businessman Sandiaga Uno.
The two pairs eliminated Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono – son of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono – and his running mate Sylviana Murni in the first round on Feb. 15.
