Jakarta Police Awaits Provincial Govt Decision on 3-in-1
Jakarta. After the conclusion of the trial 3-in-1 suspension in Jakarta on Wednesday night (13/04), Jakarta Police Chief Insp. Gen. Moechgiyarto said the final decision now lies with the provincial administration.
“Let the team speaks We have appointed a team from the police and the administration. Let them say whether it [3-in-1] will be continued or ended,” Moechgiyarto said at the Jakarta Police Headquarters, Wednesday.
The police chief is confident the team — including officials from the Jakarta transportation services, police traffic directorate, transportation expert and other stakeholders — can make the recommendations.
The first phase of the suspension over April 5 to 8 saw a 24.6 percent increase in cars on the road, while the second phase is likely to have produced similar results.
After receiving the recommendation, Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama will publish the regulation.
“There will be a decision from the Governor. The regulation might end 3-in-1, or [replace it with] other program,” Moechgiyarto said.
Previously, the police said they would reinstate Jakarta's controversial 3-in-1 carpooling system until an alternative is ready. It will be discussed in a meeting to be held by Jakarta Transportation Services.
The Jakarta administration has long planned a transition from the carpooling system to the long-overdue Electronic Pricing system.
