Lawmaker Reports Administrators of Pro-FPI Social Media Accounts for Defamation
Jakarta. House of Representatives Commission II lawmaker Henry Yosodiningrat has reported the administrators of two social media accounts to police for defamation after they posted accusations that he is a communist politician.
Henry also challenged them to face him in person, instead of anonymously making false accusations against him on social media.
"I have reported those responsible for Facebook account 'Satu Channel' and Instagram account 'Habib Rizieq,'" he said in Jakarta on Tuesday (31/01).
Henry added that he believes the two accounts are connected, as they uploaded the same picture of him with the caption: "A politician with communist ideals."
"They have posted it on their FB [Facebook] and IG [Instagram] accounts; there was a picture of me with a sentence saying that I am a politician with communist ideals, and that I hate Islam [and Muslims]," Henry said.
When BeritaSatu.com viewed the accounts, they also contained a picture of several politicians with the caption: "The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle [PDI-P] has been hijacked by groups consisting of those with communist ideology and minority radical fundamentalists that oppose Muslims by riding on the PDI-P."
Henry's photo was included, along with PDI-P secretary general Hasto Kristiyanto and Budiman Sujatmiko.
"I have to report this to defend my honor and to prevent disintegration […]. I am accused, and this may cause Muslims to hate me. It was not mentioned that I am a hajji; whether I am a Muslim or not; as there is a sentence containing 'minority group.' It is dangerous," Henry said, adding that this accusation may also affect his children.
The lawmaker said the identities of those responsible for the uploads are still under investigation but that this includes the administrators of the two social media accounts.
"Let the investigators conduct their investigation," he said.
Henry added that the posts were likely related to him having urged police to immediately arrest Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab.
"Previously, I was never mentioned by Rizieq's group, or the FPI, or anyone. But after I visited the police to call on the arrest of Rizieq on the multiple charges against him […], this appears only a day after," Henry said.
Police will investigate a case of defamation in the electronic media under the Criminal Law.
