Anas Yusuf Replaced as Police Academy Governor After Death of Cadet
Jakarta. Insp. Gen. Anas Yusuf was removed from his post as governor of the Police Academy following the death last month of cadet Mohammad Adam during a training activity in Semarang, Central Java.
Anas was transferred to the position of senior analyst at the National Police's Educational and Training Institution (Lemdiklat). He is replaced by North Sumatra Police chief Insp. Gen. Rycko Amelza Dahniel.
"Mr. Rycko is the best alumni of the Police Academy. He did really good in North Sumatra but I need him to become the governor of the Police Academy because I want to fix the academy," National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said at in Jakarta on Monday (05/06).
Tito said the academy plays an important role to produce future police leaders. He expressed regret over the death of cadet Mohammad, who died after he was allegedly assaulted by his seniors.
"A week before the incident I went there," Tito said. He said he only later learned about the incident, which made national headlines.
"No more violence [at the academy]," Tito said.
When asked by reporters whether Anas's removal was an indication that he is held responsible for the cadet's death, Tito responded by saying: "I have reminded the coordinator [at the academy] to stop the culture of violence, because it serves no purpose. Because what could happen? After [the seniors] beat the juniors, [the juniors] may beat detainees, or suspects."
