Body of Murdered Indonesian Maid Repatriated From Hong Kong
Jakarta. The body of an Indonesian maid found murdered in Hong Kong earlier this month has been repatriated to her hometown in Malang, East Java, as the two men that allegedly murdered her started their trial.
The body of Wiji Astutik, 34, arrived in Wonokerto village on Tuesday evening. She was buried by her family early on Wednesday morning.
"We are grateful for the government who have repatriated her body without charging us anything, we hope the perpetrators will be punished according to the law," Wiji's sister, Rinda Lestari, said on Wednesday.
Wiji was found dead inside a folded mattress on the pavement in the Mong Kok area of Hong Kong on June 8.
Two days later Hong Kong police named Wiji's boyfriend, 30-year-old Wahaj Fyaz from Pakistan and his Indian friend, Fahaz, suspects in the murder.
In February, Wahaj was arrested for assaulting Wiji, but she later dropped the case.
Agustav Ilyas, from the Indonesian embassy in Hong Kong, said the trial for both suspects had started but the motive behind the gruesome murder remained unknown.
