Group Withdraws Its Suit Against Ahok
Jakarta. A group of lawyers called the Advocates of Patriotism, or ACTA, withdrew their civil lawsuit against Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama after an initial hearing at the North Jakarta Court on Thursday (19/01).
Humphrey Djemat, Ahok's lawyer, on Friday has confirmed to Beritasatu.com that the suit has been withdrawn as it hit a legal dead end.
"Members of ACTA have withdrawn the lawsuit against Basuki Tjahja Purnama," Humphrey said.
The court did not accept the suit to be tacked to Ahok's ongoing blasphemy case, leaving no option for group but to drop it.
On Dec. 8, ACTA representative Ali Hakim Lubis filed the class-action lawsuit, demanding Rp 470 billion ($35 million) from the governor and a public apology in nine national newspapers, arguing that the amount is what Ahok owes Muslims for all alleged material losses caused by the blasphemy case.
Members of ACTA, closely linked to the Islamic Defenders Front, or FPI, claimed that they had filed the lawsuit on behalf of all Indonesian Muslims.
