Jakarta. A man who was involved in the assault on an official of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, or PDI-P, turned himself in to police on Sunday morning (08/01).

Widodo, of the party's Petamburan branch, was attacked by a group of people after Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat's impromptu visit to the area in West Jakarta on Friday.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono said the suspect, identified as Irfan Sufian, was accompanied by his parents to Jelambar Police Station in West Jakarta.

"He is allegedly the main attacker in the assault on Widodo on Jalan Utama in Jelambar subdistrict," Argo said.

Widodo sustained several injuries, including a broken nose and fractured ribs. Police are investigating the case and pursuing other suspects.
