Mob Kills 2 Thieves, Injures 1 in E. Java
Pasuruan, East Java. Two motorcycle thieves are dead and another has been injured in Pasuruan district, East Java, after they were caught by an angry mob, police said on Tuesday (19/04).
Pasuruan Police criminal unit chief Adj. Comr. Riyanto said the incident began last Sunday after two motorcyclists, 40-year-old Muchlison and 45-year-old Tohir, were robbed by six perpetrators while passing on a street in Rejoso subdisrict.
Tohir was repeatedly stabbed during the robbery, while Muchlison fled to look for help.
Residents pursued the culprits and caught three of the six attackers, who were then stripped and assaulted by the mob. Two were killed at the scene while the other has sustained severe injuries.
Police are yet to release the identity of the suspects as investigations are continuing.
Mob justice is a common occurrence in Indonesia, with communities enacting "justice" before police can arrive on the scene.
