Jakarta. The bodies of two alleged suicide bombers involved in twin explosions at the Kampung Melayu bus terminal in East Jakarta on Wednesday night (24/05) are now being examined at the Sukanto National Police Hospital's forensic installation in Kramat Jati, also in East Jakarta.

Investigators from the Indonesia Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (Inafis) are working to confirm the identity of the alleged suicide bombers, who were killed instantly when their "pressure-cooker bombs" exploded and killed five people — including three police officers — and injured dozens of others on Wednesday night.

The police hospital's head of forensic installation Chief Comr. Edy Purnomo said his team cannot confirm yet how many dead bodies are being examined, since the remains were found in pieces.

The police said they have collected the remains of what they think are two persons.

"I can't confirm how many bodies we have in the installation room, they have yet to be identified. One [body] is in separate pieces and one is intact,” Edy said on Thursday.

Edy was unable to confirm they were the bodies of the terror attack perpetrators. "I can't say, I am not an investigator. But they are not police officers, they're civilians," he said.

Three police officers were killed in the twin explosions, Edy confirmed.

The bodies of the alleged perpetrators were left almost unidentifiable by the explosions, but it is assumed that both were men.

The police will confirm the identity of the perpetrators first before trying to find out if they were affiliated with a terrorist organization.

Five other police officers and dozens of civilians who were injured in the attack are being treated at nearby Premier Hospital and Hermina Hospital in Jatinegara and at the police hospital in Kramat Jati.
