Top Karate Athletes Take Out Indosat Awards
Jakarta. All 43 medal winners from the Indonesian contingent at the 12th World Championship Shotokan Karate International Federation, or SKIF, at the JIExpo in Kemayoran, West Jakarta, in August have been given awards by Indonesia's third-largest mobile phone operator.
Indonesia's 43 karate athletes took part against 1,000 participants from 46 countries at the championships.
Indosat Ooredoo awarded several trophies and bonuses to the athletes to show support and appreciation.
"This is our commitment to participate with the government to develop sport in the country," Indosat Ooredoo president director and chief executive Alexander Rusli said in a statement sent to the Jakarta Globe on Wednesday (14/09).
Athletes also received smartphones with a balance in its e-wallet service Dompetku.
"The support and appreciation from Ooredoo Indosat is part of our effort to help the development of national sports, particularly karate. We hope it will also be able to motivate athletes in achieving in every championship," Rusli said.
SKIF chairman Aldrin Tando said he is pleased with the special attention from Indosat.
"Awards to athletes will certainly boost their happiness and spirit to keep competing to be the best for Indonesia. Hopefully what Indosat initiated could also inspire other parties to give support to Indonesian athletes," Aldrin said in a statement.
Indosat also supports the national U13 football side, who finished second at the annual international Gothia Cup in Denmark earlier this year. Support is also given to local football clubs including Bandung's Persib, Arema Cronus from Malang and Bali United.
