Jakarta. The Tanjung Lesung Special Economic Zone for Tourism located in Pandeglang, Banten, is set to feature the Rhino Cross Triathlon, or Rhino X-Tri, dubbed as the first cross-triathlon in Indonesia, on Sept. 22-24.
The cross-triathlon comprises swimming, cycling and running and will take place in the beautiful Tanjung Lesung with captivating terrain and natural views. It will also be part of Pesona Tanjung Lesung Festival with hundreds of triathletes from several countries set to attend.
"The Banten Provincial government, together with the government of Pandeglang district and Tanjung Lesung operator company Banten West Java, are set to hold and ensure the success of the Pesona Tanjung Lesung Festival and Rhino X-Tri. These are such special and strategic double events, to introduce not only the beauty of nature and the rich cultures of the people in Banten, but also to introduce cross-triathlon to people in Indonesia and from other countries," BWJ chief executive Poernomo Siswoprasetijo said in a statement on Tuesday (05/09).
"Banten has its Seven Wonders of Banten that we want to introduce to as many people as possible, to domestic and international tourists. So, I’d like to use this opportunity to invite everyone to come to the event this September," he added.
The festival will host various exciting, special and festive events, like the Bebegig Scarecrow and Kolecer Windmill Festival, Banten-traditional food bazaar, Banten's Seven Wonders exhibition and the Pandeglang 10K Marathon.
Rhino X-Tri, which is set to be the first cross-triathlon, or off-road triathlon held in Indonesia, has attracted support from various parties interested in the development of triathlon not only in Indonesia but also around the world.
"I strongly recommend that everyone try the exciting challenges Rhino X-Tri has to offer as this is going to be the first major off-road triathlon in Indonesia. Besides off-road triathlons, running enthusiasts can also take part in the Sunset Trail Run, while for cyclists, we have the Mountain Bike Cross Country Marathon that they can compete in," said Kris Van de Velde, the founder and general manager of Asia Trail Master.
Abdoullah "Doel" Mitiche, a Jakarta-based Algerian trail run athlete, also endorsed the event.
"Rhino X-Tri presents special challenges to athletes because of its location in Tanjung Lesung and it's the first one in the country. Once I return home from the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Tennessee on Sept. 9, I will begin preparing for the event," he said.
