Olga Lydia to Chair 2015 Indonesian Film Festival
Jakarta. The organizers of the upcoming Indonesian Film Festival have named the actress Olga Lydia to chair the festival committee.
“We believe Olga will be able to do this task,” Kemala Atmojo, the head of the Indonesian Film Board (BPI), said at a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Olga acknowledged that the job of recognizing achievements in the Indonesian film industry was a difficult one, and said filmmakers needed to be more invested in the annual awards show, Indonesia’s version of the Oscars.
“We all want the industry to improve,” she said as quoted by Antara. “This is also not just an awards show for filmmakers, but for viewers of Indonesian films.”
The BPI has also appointed the actor Lukman Sardi as head of media and publication for the event, and the veteran actress Jajang C. Noor as the head of the jury.
The FFI committee will reportedly announce nominations on Nov. 12, with the awards ceremony to take place on Nov. 21 at the Indonesia Convention and Exhibition center in Tangerang in Nov. 21.
The FFI, which hands out “Citra” awards in a wide range of categories, garnered notoriety in 2006 when it handed out the award for best film to the teen slasher flick “Eksul,” despite the movie being rife with plagiarism and copyright infringements. It later withdrew the award.
