Supernatural Thriller Starring Nicholas Saputra and Prisia Nasution to Premiere at Locarno Film Fest
Jakarta. "Interchange," the latest feature film by director Dain Iskandar Said starring Nicholas Saputra and Prisia Nasution, is set to have its world premiere on Aug. 5 at the 69th Festival del Film Locarno in Switzerland.
"We are honored to get the chance to screen this film at Locarno," producer Fauzan Zidni told the Jakarta Globe.
"Interchange" is a Malaysia-Indonesia collaboration that also features Malaysian actors Shaheizy Sam, Iedil Putra, Nadiya Nisaa, Alvin Wong and Chew Kin Wah.
The supernatural thriller follows a detective (Shaheizy Sam) and Adam (Iedil Putra), a crime photographer, as they solve a series of bizarre murders. Haunted by disturbing visions from a gruesome murder he had witnessed, Adam retreats into photography, taking countless pictures of his neighbors, one of whom a woman from Borneo in the apartment next door, Iva (Prisia Nasution).
Adam is smitten by Iva but his entanglement with her soon degenerate into mystery, murder and mayhem. As Adam is drawn further into Iva’s tribal world and the detective delves deeper into his investigations, they encounter shamans and other supernatural beings as century-old superstitions come to life.
The movie will be shown at a midnight screening at the Piazza Grande, the main square of the town of Locarno, which can fit up to 8,000 people and has one of the largest outdoor screens in Europe.An annual event since 1946, the Film Festival Locarno is known as a festival of discovery, and has featured the works of international filmmakers such as Stanley Kubrick, Jim Jarmusch, Spike Lee, Ang Lee, Kim Ki-Duk and the late Abbas Kiarostami among others.
Director Dain Said will be attending the premier along with main stars Shaheizy Sam, Nicholas Saputra, Iedil Putra and Prisia Nasution. Iedil and Prisia, who met on the set of "Interchange," were married in a private ceremony in Jakarta earlier this month.
"Interchange" is produced by Apparat in association with Cinesurya Pictures with funding from Sonneratia Capital, Seeing Eye Films and MDEC and additional support from FINAS. The project is represented internationally by Paris-based Reel Suspects and XYZ Films in North America.
