Ballads From 'Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2' Reach Stage Prior to Film Release
Jakarta. The sequel of religious-themed romance blockbuster "Ayat-Ayat Cinta" or "The Verses of Love" will have its soundtrack released on the stage of the Jakarta Convention Center in Central Jakarta on Dec. 20, just a day before the film enters Indonesian cinemas.
Titled "The Colors of Love," the concert will bring together four divas — Krisdayanti, Rossa, Raisa and Isyana Sarasvati — singing the songs from "Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2," accompanied by an orchestra.
Just like its predecessor, "Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2" will be centered on the issue of polygamy seen through an Islamic perspective, also sourced from Habibburahman El Shirazy's novels.
The 2008 film directed by Hanung Bramantyo was a commercial hit that attracted 3.7 million viewers. The fame of its title song, sung by Rossa and composed by Melly Goeslaw and her husband Anto Hoed, greatly contributed to the success of the movie.
Now Melly and Anto, who have composed soundtracks to numerous Indonesian romance movies, have prepared a set of powerful ballads for the "Ayat-Ayat Cinta" sequel.
Melly said that trying to live up to the previous film's success was a big pressure.
"But it motivated me to make deeper, more meaningful lyrics. I read the film script several times to produce songs that correspond with the characters in the film," Melly said in a statement.
Veteran singer Krisdayanti was selected to sing the titular theme, "Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2," about the main character's longing for his beloved. Krisdayanti praised Melly and Anto for the deep, moving lyrics.
Rossa is also set to return with a song titled "Bulan Dikekang Malam" ("Moon Restrained by the Night") written for Dewi Sandra's character, Sabina.
"Singing 'Bulan Dikekang Malam' was more difficult than what I did for the first movie. I needed to develop a deeper understanding of the specific scene this song refers to," Rossa said.
Young diva Isyana Sarasvati will sing "Masih Berharap" ("Still Hoping") written by hitmaker Yovie Widianto and arranged by Ari Renaldi. She said she considers it "a dream coming true."
"It took me 15 minutes to write the song, right after I watched the film's trailer. It is about someone who is still thinking about their past lover. I am proud that Isyana was able to pour all her heart into it," Yovie said.
Another young diva, Raisa, is currently writing her song for the film, and will release it sometime this month.
The four divas will share the stage and perform their songs in the concert organized by MD Live Productions, a subsidiary of production house MD Pictures, in collaboration with event organizer Marygops Asia Group.
Ticket prices start at Rp 550,000 ($40.7). Tickets are available via online platforms such as Goers, Blanja.com, Tiket.com, and Ticketapasaja.com.
