Indonesian Children’s Choir Wins Grand Prize at Tolosa Choral Contest
Jakarta. The Resonanz Children’s Choir, or TRCC, a choir group led by Indonesian conductor Avip Priatna, won a grand prize at the 49th Tolosa Choral Contest in Tolosa, Spain, on Sunday (05/11).
TRCC pipped a host of experienced choirs to the title, including senior choir groups The University Collegiate Chorale from the United States and Sansara from England.
This is the second time TRCC wins a grand champion title in a competition this year after a similar success at the Musica Eterna Roma International Choral Competition and Festival back in July.
Comprising 40 young singers aged 10 to 17, TRCC sang five songs in Tolosa: David Azurza’s "Ihauteri Habanerak," Basque Josu Elberdin’s "Ikusten Duzu," Zoltán Kodály’s "Táncnotá," Fero Aldiansya’s "137 Hip Street" and a rendition of traditional Papuan folk song "Yamko Rambe Yamko" arranged by Bambang Jusana.
TRCC also came up first place in the Children’s Choir category and won the Public Audience Award.
In the Children’s Choir category, TRCC beat Roni Sugiarto’s Saint Angela Choir from Bandung (West Java), Liepaites from Lithuania, The Girl’s Choir of the Old Town Music House from Estonia, Lautitia Children’s Choir from Hungary and Prague Philharmonic Children’s Choir from the Czech Republic.
Winning the Tolosa Choral Concert means TRCC will now compete at the European Grand Prix in Choral Singing on April 21, 2018 in Maribor, Slovenia.
While in Spain, the group celebrated their 10th anniversary by holding concerts in Ordizia, Zarauts and Artajona, playing a mixed set of folk and choral songs, from the Aceh folk classic "Bungong Jeumpa" to "As Long as I Have Music."
