Oscar Lolang to Launch Cassette Mini Album on Record Store Day
Jakarta. Folk musician Oscar Lolang is set to re-release his mini album "Epilogue" in cassette format to celebrate Record Store Day on April 21-22, his record label announced on Tuesday (11/04).
"Epilogue" was earlier available only in a collectible set that included a CD, a t-shirt and an art postcard by Vira Talisa.
Karma Records said in a statement that it tries to establish a more intimate bond between Oscar's music and audience. After the collectible set, it now wants to offer something more unique.
Producer Dimas Randhan said that to produce the cassette album Karma has cooperated with Bandung-based indie label Loka Analog Records.
"The idea to release the cassette album has been around since the beginning of the year. We are waiting for Record Store Day to launch it," he said.
The CD version of "Epilogue" consists of two tracks: "Little Sunny Girl" and "The Way She Does Things." The cassette version will have both songs and a number of traditional Scottish ballads, including "Barbara Allen" — recorded as Oscar's debut single for the label.
For the musician, "Barbara Allen" is a nostalgic song.
"The first time I heard it, I felt as if I were in Shakespeare's era. I felt I was thrown into a tragic love story," he said.
Only 100 cassettes will be sold on Record Store Day at Kuningan City in Jakarta and Keep Keep Musik in Bandung, West Java. Each will cost Rp 60,000 ($4.5).
The Jakarta event on April 21 will see Oscar performing live.
Record Store Day is an annual celebration of independently owned record stores and cultural themes that they kindle.
