Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia Files Legal Suit to Reverse Disbandment Order
Jakarta. Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia has filed suit in the Jakarta State Administrative Court seeking to overturn a ministerial decree that orders the disbandment of the group.
The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights officially disbanded the organization in July for posing a threat to national unity and Pancasila, the state ideology. HTI is the Indonesian branch of Hizb ut-Tahrir, an international pan-Islamist political organization that seeks to establish a global caliphate.
The court's website shows that HTI representative Muhammad Ismail Yusanto filed the suit on Oct. 13.
The organization asks the court to suspend the ministerial decree ordering its disbandment until a final decision is reached.
"To declare the Indonesian justice and human rights minister's decision […] void and not legally binding," HTI requests, as quoted on the court's website.
The organization also asks the court to revoke the ministerial decree if its first request is granted.
No timeframe has been set for the court to start examining the request.
