531 Election Officials Accused of Ethics Violations
Jakarta. A state body said it has received more than a hundred complaints related to ethics violations by election officials during last week's simultaneous regional polls, with less than half of the cases set to be heard.
Based on 111 complaints, 531 members of the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) are alleged to have committed ethics violations.
Nearly 73 percent of the reported officials are members of the KPU, according to data from the Election Organizers Ethics Council (DKPP).
DKPP chairman Jimly Asshiddiqie said on Thursday (23/02) that his office was still examining the complaints, but that not all of them will be subject to ethics hearings.
"We have yet to make a final decision on the complaints. Only those based on sufficient evidence will be brought before a tribunal," the former Constitutional Court chairman said at his office in Jakarta.
According to DKPP data, 33 of the 111 complaints "do not meet the requirements," while another 27 have been dismissed.
Millions of Indonesians voted in the regional elections in seven provinces, 18 cities and 76 districts on Feb. 15.
