Airport Operator's New Incentives To Reduce Airport Traffic
Jakarta. The director of state-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II, Muhammad Awaluddin, introduced new incentives for airlines on April 17 to open new routes and refrain from remaining overnight at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
According to Tourism Ministry data, a total of 149 airplanes remained overnight at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on April 19.
The airport's parking space is often jam-packed and authorities have a lot of trouble managing planes on its apron.
AP II now encourages airlines to remain over night (RON) at other airports under its management to make space at Soekarno-Hatta.
Awaluddin said all airplanes landing at Soekarno-Hatta will be charged a parking fee.
"Parking a plane at Soekarno-Hatta means paying our fees. If they RON at other airports under AP II's management, they won’t be charged a RON fee," he added.
AP II currently has 13 airports under its management — 10 of them international airports and the other three —Silangit in North Sumatera, Sultan Taha in Jambi and Depati Amir in Pangkal Pinang — are still waiting to be accorded an international status.
AP II has also launched a new mobile app called Indonesia Airport and a new "Go Digital" program to help passengers get through Indonesian airports faster.
