Anies and Sandiaga or Ahok-Djarot Plus?
Jakarta. Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, who is running for re-election with his boss Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, snidely said on Wednesday (22/03) he would have no problem if rivals Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno promise government programs replicated from existing ones by the current administration.
Many government programs in Jakarta that were formulated by Ahok and Djarot have been copied by Anies and Sandiaga as part of their campaign promises. The only difference is a new plus sign at the end of each program's name.
The old Smart Jakarta Card (KJP), Jakarta Health Card (KJS) and Jakarta Elderly Card (KJL) have been rebranded as KJP+, KJS+ and KJL+ by the contenders during their campaign for the gubernatorial run-off election on April 19.
KJP is the city's education fund and KJS a city-funded health insurance. KJL is an assistance program for elderly residents in Jakarta due to be launched in May this year.
"Cheating is easy. Let them [Anies and Sandiaga] do it," Djarot said during a campaign visit to North Jakarta.
The deputy governor said the programs were designed to improve welfare for Jakarta's poorest residents.
"We have detailed data on the city's elderly and homeless. We know there are at least 600,000 households in the city which need urgent help," Djarot said.
He said the KJL was created to assist elderly people who do not have any income or earn less than the minimum monthly wage in Jakarta – which is now set at Rp 3,355,750 ($250). Last year the Jakarta minimum wage was set at Rp 3.1 million.
"We will launch the KJL in the second quarter of this year. Many elderly people do not want to live in nursing homes, they want to stay close to their families," Djarot said.
