Anies-Sandiaga Have the Numbers in Internal Exit Poll
Jakarta. An internal exit poll for the Jakarta gubernatorial election on Wednesday (15/02) shows Anies Baswedan and his running mate Sandiaga Uno currently leading the three-way race, their campaign team said.
The pair by mid-afternoon has gained 45.18 percent of the votes, followed by current Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama and his deputy Djarot Saiful Hidayat with 40.36 percent and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni with 14.46 percent, according to the exit poll.
An exit poll is carried out by asking random people who have just cast their votes at polling stations.
The deputy head of the Anies-Sandiaga campaign team, M. Taufik, said the exit poll was carried out by volunteers in 840 polling stations across Jakarta.
"The numbers are accurate and hopefully we will have a run-off in the election," he told reporters at the Anies-Sandiaga campaign headquarters in Cicurug, Menteng, Central Jakarta.
Upon arrival at the headquarters, Anies, speaking in front of his campaign team's members and volunteers, said he and Sandiaga have so far gained a "fairly high" and "significant" number of votes, but did not give exact poll numbers.
"I want to thank our volunteers who have all been working very hard," Anies, who is backed by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), said.
Anies earlier cast his own vote at a polling station in Cilandak, South Jakarta.
Around 7.1 million residents voted at more than 13,000 polling stations in the Jakarta gubernatorial race on Wednesday.
