Another Cabinet Reshuffle in the Cards in 2017: Researcher
Jakarta. Arya Fernandez, a political observer from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, or CSIS, think tank said another cabinet reshuffle might be in the cards in 2017.
Arya said President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo puts trust above everything else – and will not hesitate to replace ministers that he does not fully trust.
"But the last reshuffle was last July, so we will have to wait a bit for the next one," Arya said in Jakarta on Wednesday (11/01).
According to the researcher, the president will give the current ministers time to prove their worth.
Unstable political conditions will be another reason for Jokowi to maintain his current cabinet, at least until later in the year.
Arya said Jokowi will try to improve communication with political parties backing his government and gauge the opinion of the public.
He estimated another reshuffle could be on the table by the middle of the year.
"It's better to get rid of underperforming ministers this year than later in Jokowi's presidency," Arya said.
