Army General Teddy Hernayadi Sentenced to Life in $12m Graft Case
Jakarta. Indonesian Military Brig. Gen. Teddy Hernayadi was sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday (30/11) after misusing $12 million of the Defense Ministry budget for his personal use.
The Jakarta Military Court found Teddy guilty of misusing funds while serving as section head of funding execution at the Defense Ministry 2010 to 2014.
During that period, Teddy disbursed $12 million without approval from the Ministry's finance division head or the minister.
The court found cash which had been allocated to the purchase of Apache attack helicopters and F-16 multirole fighter aircraft has been used by Teddy.
“The court believes the defendant is neglectful in executing his tasks. The defendant lives hedonisticaly and underestimates his tasks and responsibilities,” presiding Judge Brig. Gen. Deddy Suryanto said during the verdict hearing in East Jakarta, as reported by Detik news portal.
The court also ordered the Indonesian Military, or TNI, to dismiss Teddy from the institution.
Teddy is still considering filing an appeal.
