Asian Games Torch Reaches Jakarta for Its Final City Lap
Jakarta. The Asian Games' torch relay reached Jakarta where the 18th edition of the Asia's biggest sport event will be held.
The torch has been relayed in Jakarta since Tuesday and will last until it arrives in Gelora Bung Karno sport complex on Saturday (18/08) that will mark the opening of the Games.
On Wednesday, the torch was passed from Taman Mini Indonesia Indah in East Jakarta and relayed to the South Jakarta's city hall witnessed by thousands of people.
"I'm willing to join the crowd to see the torch despite the weather is very hot. I'd suffer for that to see this historical moment," Anto, 28, a citizen who resides in Pasar Minggu sub-district, South Jakarta, as the torch passed his area on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the torch relay will be relayed from the Jakarta City Hall in Central Jakarta to the Sunter Lake in North Jakarta. On Friday, it will be be passed on from Sunter to the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta, before it finally reaches the GBK on Saturday.
The torch relay has been activated in the country since it first arrived on July 17 from India, where the Games' first edition was held in 1951.
