Australia to Provide Emergency Aid for Aceh Quake Victims
Jakarta. The Australian government has indicated that it will assist with relief efforts in Aceh, which has declared a state of emergency in three districts following the 6.4-magnitude earthquake on Wednesday morning (07/12).
Australia will ship emergency equipment that is stored in Jakarta to Aceh, in addition to first aid kits and clean water.
"We will provide 1,500 family essentials kits, 2,200 tarpaulins and 100 tents," the Australian Embassy's public affairs office said in a statement on Friday.
Australia has so far contributed A$1 million ($750,000) via the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), at the request of the Indonesian government.
"We will continue to monitor the situation in Aceh and will be prepared to provide more assistance to Indonesia when needed," the statement said.
