Jakarta. Gubernatorial candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono conceded defeat after the quick count results showed that he has finished last in the race.

"With chivalry and gracefulness, I accept my defeat in the Jakarta gubernatorial election," Agus said during a press conference in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday evening (15/02).

Accompanied by running mate Sylviana Murni and his wife Annisa Pohan, Agus said he had congratulated his competitors Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat and Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno.

"Congratulations to candidate pair number two, Mr. Basuki and Mr. Djarot, as well as pair number three, Mr. Anies and Mr. Sandiaga," Agus said.

"I have called Mr. Basuki to congratulate him," he said, adding that he was unable to reach Anies as he was still busy.

Quick count results by various polling agencies showed that Agus-Sylviana received less than 20 percent of the vote. Ahok leads with slightly more than over 40 percent, followed by Anies with around 39 percent.

If no candidate pair secures more than 50 percent of the vote, there will be a runoff, which is scheduled for April 19.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) meanwhile said it will announce the official results within the next two weeks.
