Choel Mallarangeng Ready to Unveil Details of Hambalang Graft Case
Jakarta. Andi Zulkarnaen Mallarangeng, better known as Choel, said he is ready to unveil details of the Hambalang Sports Complex graft case if he becomes a state witness.
Choel, brother of former sports minister and graft convict Andi Alfian Mallarangeng, was arrested earlier this month.
"I am ready [to unveil the details]," he said after the questioning by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Friday (24/02).
The names of persons involved, according to Choel, had already been revealed earlier, as the case has been ongoing for years. It is up to the KPK whether they will be tied with the Hambalang case or not, he said.
Choel's detention has been extended for the next 40 days.
"We hope the information will be conveyed by the party proposing to become a state witness," KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said.
Choel has been investigated for his alleged involvement in the 2010 bid-rigging and bribery case surrounding the construction of the Hambalang sports complex in Bogor, West Java.
He was accused of helping his brother take $839,000 in bribes from a company called Global Daya Manunggal, one of the subcontractors in the project. He had reportedly held meetings with other suspects in the case on behalf of his brother.
