EduCo to Send Indonesian Students to Irish Universities
Jakarta. Global education company EduCo announced their newest partnership with Dublin City University and Maynooth University, both in Dublin, at Pullman Jakarta on Wednesday (01/03).
The company has been assisting international students in pursuing studies in English-speaking countries since 2010. Their portfolio includes high-profile universities in Australia, United States and Canada.
Dublin City University and Maynooth University are the first European universities they will work with. EduCo seeks to send 40 Indonesian students to Ireland this year.
"We've been wanting to add a European country to the EduCo family. And for us, Ireland is the right country to add, because it's an open country. It's open to immigration and international students," said Jacob Kestner, managing director of EduCo Ireland Pathways.
Irish Ambassador Kyle O'Sullivan encourages Indonesian students to pursue higher education in Ireland.
"Ireland is an English speaking country. It would soon be the only one in the European Union," he said.
Dublin hosts the European headquarters of many Silicon Valley tech firms, including Google, Facebook and Yahoo. Nine of the world's top 10 medical device companies also have manufacturing and research facilities in Ireland.
"And we have some of the most excellent universities and colleges," the ambassador added.
Both DCU and Maynooth University are among the top public universities in the country.
"DCU calls itself the enterprise university. It's very strong in business in particular. It's number one in Ireland for employability [of its graduates]," said Kestner.
The university, which has been featured in the Times Higher Education Top 100 Under 50 and QS Top 50 Under 50, currently has around 16,000 students, 22% of whom are international students.
Maynooth University is located 25 kilometers west of Dublin. The university, ranked 68 in the Times Higher Education Top 150 Under 50 list, has 1,500 students from 114 countries.
"Maynooth's real strength is in the STEM subjects science, engineering, computer science and mathematics," Kestner said.
To be eligible to study at each university, you need to have a minimum GPA of 7.0. You also need to have a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL score of 90.
"Previously, universities in Ireland only accepted students from international schools, but with our program, they also accept graduates from national high schools," said Lina Clara, EduCo regional sales and marketing manager.
Average tuition fee for DCU and Maynooth University courses is around 13,000 euros ($13,800) per year, while living costs in Dublin range from 7,000 to 10,000 euros a year.
"Students in Ireland are allowed to work 20 hours per week. And during summer and winter holidays, they can work full time," Lina said.
International students are also allowed to stay in the country for up to two years after graduating.
