Jakarta. Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi departed for Sittwe in Myanmar's Rakhine State on Saturday morning (21/01) to deliver humanitarian aid from Indonesia and inspect current conditions in the region.
About 10 containers of food and clothing will be distributed among Rohingya Muslim refugees, at the request of the Myanmar government.
On her third visit to the country in recent months, Retno will also officiate at the opening of two schools in Sittwe, donated by the Indonesian people.
Retno met with U. Kyaw Zeya, permanent secretary of Myanmar's Foreign Ministry, on Friday to convey support for conflict resolution in Myanmar after an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Kuala Lumpur.
She also met with representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the United Nations Development Program, as well as a member of the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State, to discuss the latest developments after they reinstated humanitarian programs in the region.
Retno also visited the Indonesian International School Yangon, which has been in existence since 1967 and currently hosts 549 students.
