Former Minister, Muslim Scholar Adi Sasono Dies at 73
Jakarta.
Adi Sasono, a noted Muslim scholar and former cooperatives minister, died Saturday afternoon (13/08) at the age of 73.
Adi, born in Pekalongan district, Central Java, died at the Mayapada Hospital in South Jakarta at 5.20 p.m. after receiving treatment for liver and colon cancer since Wednesday.
A commemoration for the former general secretary of Indonesian Muslim Scholars Association was held at Adi’s home in Pondok Labu, South Jakarta. A funeral will follow at Tanah Kusir cemetery on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Adi served as cooperatives minister for 17 months under former president Bacharuddin Habibie from 1998 to 1999.
Prior to the post, he was well-known as an activist with the Islamic Students Association, Indonesian Students Press Group and Indonesian Islamic Student.
