Govt Targets Increasing Level on Ease of Doing Business: President
Jakarta. President Joko Widodo will shift the focus of economic policy to improving the country's ease of doing business constraints, with the application of economic policy packages focusing on the deregulation of several procedures, expenses and licensing.
“Improvement measures are needed to upgrade the Ease of Doing Business ranking from 109 to 40,” Joko said in a statement issued on Monday (09/05).
He pointed to the 12th economic stimulus policy package as an important policy targeting 10 key indicators for ease of doing business. Of the initial 94 procedures, only 49 remain after the reform.
“The cuts are significant. However, in practice, I would like us to follow this, especially in the field implementation,” Joko said.
The policy also streamlines licenses and the time it takes to apply — down to six licenses and 132 processing days from a previous nine licenses and an average 1,566 days of processing.
The president is confident the improvements will make Indonesia a country worth of investment and expansion into the international financial market.
It will increase the positive perception of Indonesia, he said, which leads to an increase in investment.
"I call for improvements in institutional, economic, external, fiscal and monetary aspects to achieve the target of investment-worthy," Joko said in the statement.
