Illegal Gold Mine Collapse Kills Eight in W. Kalimantan
Jakarta. An illegal gold mine in West Kalimantan collapsed on Thursday, killing eight people, police said.
The incident happened in a gold mine in Boma cave, Bengkayang district, after a landslip buried nine people, one of whom was rescued.
"The collapse happened on Thursday at 2 p.m. after the land dug up earlier suddenly slid down and buried the workers," West Kalimantan Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr.Nowo Winarti said on Friday.
Nowo said the illegal mine was operating on a property owned by a man named Poniman and funded by another man identified as Yanto.
The Thursday incident happened three months after a similar incident occurred only three kilometers away. Another illegal gold mine collapsed in Bengkayang district in October last year killed 18 workers.
