Indonesia to Take Wait-and-See Approach With President Trump's Foreign Policies
Jakarta. Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said Indonesia will wait for United States President-elect Donald Trump to release his foreign policies before deciding whether or not to adjust its relations with the world's only superpower.
"We will wait until President Trump release his real policies. So far we've only seen his campaign promises," Retno said in Yogyakarta on Friday (30/12).
"We will see if President Trump will go through with his promised foreign policies or adjust them here and there. We will determine our stance once he's made up his mind," she said.
Retno said Indonesia will remain a strategic partner for the US.
"We've always had good relations with the US as a strategic partner," she said.
During his campaign, President-elect Trump made many controversial statements regarding US foreign policies, including threatening to deport illegal immigrants, build walls on the US-Mexico border, ban Muslims from entering the US and abandon its traditional allies.
