Indonesia's Liga 1 Scores New Sponsorship Deals From Go-Jek, Traveloka
Jakarta. The Indonesian Football Association, or PSSI, has announced that the country's top-tier football league will be rebranded as the Go-Jek Traveloka Liga 1 following new sponsorship deals.
The league, called the Indonesian Super League in its inception in 2008, changed its name in January to Liga 1.
"The league's official name is now Go-Jek Traveloka Liga 1," PSSI international relations and media director Hanif Thamrin told the Jakarta Globe on Wednesday (29/03).
Go-Jek, an online ride-sharing service company, and Traveloka, a flight and hotel booking company, signed a one-season deal with the league. Details about the sponsorship deals between the companies and PSSI have yet to be disclosed.
Liga Indonesia Baru, the company that oversees Liga 1's operations, reportedly selected TV One, a national television channel owned by Golkar party politician Aburizal Bakrie, as the new league's official broadcaster.
Go-Jek Traveloka Liga 1 will kick off on April 15 with an opening match between host Persib Bandung and Malang's Arema FC. Eight other matches are also scheduled on the opening day across the archipelago.
