Jakarta. Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said international cooperation is key to the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Speaking at the G20 ministerial meeting in Bonn, Germany, on Thursday (16/02), Retno expressed the need for cooperation on steps taken on a national and international level.

"The heads of states of our countries have agreed on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to ensure a better future for citizens across the globe," Retno said.

She added that Indonesia has conducted an inclusive process through a bottom-up approach in formulating and implementing the 2030 Agenda within the country, emphasizing that the commitment to implement the plan will be stronger than it was with the Millennium Development Goals.

Retno also expressed concern over decreasing commitments for international and multilateral cooperation, and the development of inward-looking policies in several countries.

She stressed that such developments will not be helpful for the international community in achieving the targets of 2030 Agenda.

"To ensure the success of the 2030 Agenda globally, G20 member countries have to help developing nations by ensuring adequate capacity-building, cooperative funding and technology in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda," Retno said.

She added that such cooperation can be beneficial to G20 members.

This is the first G20 ministerial meeting of the year. Several issues, such as cooperation with African states and maintaining peace in a complex world, were discussed during the meeting, which took place on Thursday and Friday.
