Jokowi Attends Groundbreaking of Mobile Power Plant Project in W. Nusa Tenggara
Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo attended the groundbreaking of a Mobil Power Plant project in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday (11/06).
The president again used the opportunity to speak about the need for the country's regions to develop energy supply to meet demands for local communities and business.
West Nusa Tenggara has shown stronger economic growth than other provinces, at 9.9 percent in the first quarter of the year, despite inefficient electricity supplies, Jokowi said.
The director of the State Electric Company (PLN) agreed the construction of power plants is pressing and current projects should be completed as soon as possible, he added.
West Nusa Tenggara has three separated electricity systems in Lombok, Sumbawa and Bima. Lombok has the highest system with peak limit reaching at around 212 Megawatts (MW), which will be added with 50 MW from the MPP.
As related to Jokowi's target of reaching 35,000 MW by 2019, PLN will build several power plants in West Nusa Tenggara with the total capacity of 500 MW. Several projects have gone through land procurement phase within the three systems of Lombok, Sumbawa and Bima.
