Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has instructed his ministers not to be involved in any campaigns ahead of the 2017 regional elections.
According to Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Jokowi conveyed his message that ministers should focus on their duties in their respective ministries.
"The president, in limited and plenary meetings, has asked ministers whether they would be involved in [regional election] campaigns. At the time, nobody was involved," Pramono said in Jakarta on Wednesday (05/10).
He added that Jokowi needs his ministers to be prepared for work, as their duties require full concentration.
"No one is campaigning," he said.
Separately, Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said he would not be involved in any campaigns in order to set an example for other ministers.
"We do not have to participate in campaigns. If ministers and heads of institutions are campaigning, it would be a mess," Tjahjo said.
He added that only House of Representatives members and political party officials should be involved in election campaigns.
