Jakarta. The Banda People's Festival is scheduled to be held in Maluku's Banda Islands between Oct. 11 and Nov. 11.

The festival will feature various events, including dance, music and theater performances, a culinary bazaar, handicraft exhibition, writing class and history talk show.

There will also be the signing of a peace inscription on Rhun Island, a sea declaration on Hatta Island and the inauguration of statues of four national heroes who were once exiled to Banda: Mohammad Hatta, Sutan Syahrir, Cipto Mangunkusomo and Iwa Koesoemasoemantri.

A special event to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Treaty of Breda is also planned.

The festival organizers hope to draw at least 1,500 tourists.

"We have coordinated with [state-owned ship operator] Pelni to provide ships and with airlines to increase flights from Ambon to Banda Neira," Maluku Tourist Agency head Ona Saimima said.
