Police Arrest Man for Distributing Porn on Social Media
Jakarta. Police arrested a man in Jakarta earlier this week for allegedly posting pornographic and defamatory content on social media.
The 22-year-old Indonesian citizen, only identified by the initials T.G., is accused of having violated both the Pornography Law and the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law, a police official said on Friday (03/11).
Adj. Sr. Comr. Susatyo Purnomo, head of the National Police's cyber-patrol task force, said after monitoring the suspect's activities on social media, officers followed him to a hotel in Central Jakarta on Tuesday evening, where he was arrested in the company of another man, whom he had met on social media. The two were allegedly involved in producing pornographic material.
"We monitored his [social media] accounts, which he used to distribute content that is forbidden by the ITE Law, such as pornography [and] defamation," Susatyo said.
The suspect reportedly has 39,950 followers on Facebook and 1,976 on Instagram.
"The suspect also deliberately publicized his mobile phone number on social media to allow his followers to contact him," the police officer added.
Police seized several mobile phones, laptop computers, digital cameras, ancient coins and other items at the suspect's home.
He reportedly also admitted to having been infected with the human immunodeficiency virus, for which he has been receiving treatment at the National Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.
He faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison if found guilty of violating the ITE Law.
The suspect, who claims to be a professional photographer and model, allegedly started producing and distributing pornography earlier this year.
He allegedly also produced a video, posted on social media, in which he said President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo was unfit to govern the country.
