Police Detain Two People Connected to Acid Attack on Novel Baswedan
Jakarta. Police detained two people on Wednesday (26/04) believed to have valuable information regarding the recent acid attack on Novel Baswedan, a senior investigator at the Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK.
"We have detained two suspects, but they are not the assailants. Our team has been investigating the crime scene, reviewing CCTV footage and other communication networks," National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said.
"We are questioning witnesses and trying to find the motive [behind the attack]. We are checking if any of Novel's coworkers disliked him."
Tito said the suspects have undergone intensive questioning to provide investigators with more information regarding the ongoing case.
Police have questioned at least 19 witnesses so far.
Senior investigators previously denied that the probe into the incident has reached a dead-end.
Novel suffered serious burns to his face after unknown assailants threw acid on him near his home in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on April 11.
