Police Summon Deputy Governor Candidate as Witness in Graft Case
Jakarta. Police investigators have again summoned deputy governor candidate Sylviana Murni for questioning as a witness in a graft case involving the construction of a mosque in Central Jakarta.
Sylviana, the running mate of Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, was the mayor of Central Jakarta when construction of the Al Fauz Mosque began in the second half of 2010. She will face the National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit on Monday (29/01).
"There are two [cases involving Sylviana] that have stepped into investigation phase — the mosque and the case of the Scouts Regional Committee's grant," corruption crimes directorate chief Sr. Comr. Ade Deriyan said on Thursday.
The two-story mosque was built with funds from the 2010 regional budget and it was expected to cost Rp 27 billion ($2 million). Funding for construction fell short by Rp 5.6 billion, which was eventually taken from the 2011 budget.
Before the mosque construction was complete, Sylviana was replaced by the current Jakarta administrative secretary, Saefullah.
