Jakarta. Rock band Slank and a number of high-profile musicians and celebrities will perform at a free concert called "Konser Gue 2" (My Concert 2) to support incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and his running mate Djarot Saiful Hidayat in their re-election campaign.
The free concert will take place at the old Senayan driving range in South Jakarta on Saturday, Feb. 4.
Film director Jay Subiakto is one of the originators of the concert. He claimed he and his friends came up with the idea for a concert to celebrate democracy in Indonesia.
"The show will feature musical performances, poetry reading and testimonial videos. It's a true variety show," Jay said in a press conference at Slank’s base camp in South Jakarta on Friday (03/02).
The concert will start at 1.00 p.m. and finish at 5.30 p.m. on Saturday. Jay said Ahok and Djarot will also appear on stage to deliver their programs for Jakarta.
Jay claimed none of the musicians and celebrities had asked to be paid for their performance. "We're paying the stage crew and manager. They gave us a special price. We also have to rent the space and pay for security," he added.
Musicians and celebrities who will make an appearance in the concert include Marcello Tahitoe, Tompi, Once, Dian HP, Sandhy Sandoro, Kikan, Krisdayanti, PMR, Dira Sugandi, Shanty, Gita Gutawa, Project Pop, Happy Salma, Zastrouw Al Ngatawi & Orkes Kiganjur, Iwa K, Ernest Prakasa, Desta, Yossie, Indy Barends, Melanie Ricardo and more.
Slank’s drummer Bimbim advised Ahok-Djarot supporters not to bring their children or wear party accessories to the concert.
"Don't bring your children. According to the regulation, kids are not allowed at campaign events. Also, don't wear your political party accessories, don't bring posters," Bimbim said.
Jay Subiakto and Slank had also held a much bigger concert for President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo during his presidential campaign in 2014 at the Gelora Bung Karno stadium.
