Semarang Set to Launch Double-Decker Bus Tour Service
Jakarta. Semarang will introduce a double-decker bus tour service next month, the mayor of the Central Java capital said in a statement on Sunday (20/08).
The bus will pass several popular tourist attractions, including the Old Town, Lawang Sewu Building, Sam Poo Kong Temple and Great Mosque of Central Java.
"While we are waiting for the operational permit from the police's traffic unit, we are also doing a trial with the bus," Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi said.
The trial will travel along the planned route for a week.
In the long run, the bus will also tour destinations in other districts, such as Cahaya Beach in Kendal, Grojogan Sewu Waterfall in Karanganyar and the Demak Great Mosque.
"We have signed a memorandum of understanding for joint tours," Hendrar said.
The double-decker bus is designed for both seated and standing passengers.
The bus tour will be free of charge, because it is in line with the Ministry of Tourism's drive to promote the tagline "More for Less: You Get More, You Pay Less."
"This is cross-selling. […] We will employ 'More for Less' to make the price affordable and then create a promotion [for a tourist destination] as interesting as possible," Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said.
