Teenager Dies in Central Jakarta Fire
Jakarta. A 16-year-old boy died after fire broke out at a home in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/04), a police official said. The boy, identified as Riyan, was apparently trapped inside the burning building.
Witnesses spotted thick smoke coming out of the home at around 9 a.m., around an hour after the owner, identified as 65-year-old Dadang, had left.
The fire likely started on the second floor of the home where Riyan, Dadang's grandson, was trapped.
The fire was only put out an hour later after 16 firetrucks arrived at the scene. Dadang came back shortly after to find his home destroyed and his dead grandson still trapped inside.
"We're still investigating the cause of the fire. But we're pretty sure it started off on the second floor," Central Jakarta Police spokesman Comr. Suyatno said.
